If there is a city that truly evokes the essence of Spain, that city is Granada. A cross-roads of civilizations since time immemorial and in an unparalleled location. Granada is a vibrant, friendly and lively metropolis that is full of culture. The Alhambra, the flagship of the city's vast historical heritage, stands on a hilltop overlooking a city that attracts around three million visitors every year.

The city of Granada, is a safe modern city, also has an outstanding geographical location just 40 minutes from the Mediterranean Coast with its tropical climate, and 40 minutes from the Sierra Nevada ski resort and UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) in the Literature category. Granada, an iconic city in literature from Yehudá Ibn Tibón (1120-1190) and Ibn Zamrak (1333-1394), to Ángel Ganivet (1865-1898) Federico García Lorca (1895-1936) and Francisco Ayala García-Duarte (1906-2009). Granada has festivals, institutions and facilities related with visual arts, performing arts, film and music that make up a stimulating and content-rich cultural life throughout the year. The Granada Festival of Music and Dance was born in the Alhambra to gather and to convey that heritage, to strengthen the link between the imagined city and the real one, between the popular and cultural Andalusian tradition and the vast legacy of the great European musical culture. The Alhambra and Generalife Trust, Euro-Arabic Advanced Studies Foundation, Francisco Ayala Foundation, Academy of Letters, as well as festivals and private-public initiatives of all kinds. Moreover the Centro Federico García Lorca was recently opened in the city center.

The Alhambra was a palace, a fortress and a citadel; the residence of the Nasrid Sultans and top government officials, court servants and the royal guard. The Nasrid Kingdom became the last Islamic sultanate on the Iberian Peninsula, and its capital Granada progressively received Muslim populations forced to retreat from the Christians until it was conquered at the end of the 15th century.

UNESCO declared the Albaicín World Cultural Heritage in 1994, a neighbourhood in front of the Alhambra with lovely narrow streets and traditional houses. The Albaicín have also preserved a popular, hospitable atmosphere for hundreds of years.

In Granada you can find mountains, parks and valleys, along with the coast. The Sierra Nevada Nature Area, comprising its National Park and Nature Park, is a mountain range which boasts the highest peak on the Iberian Peninsula: Mulhacén (3,482 metres). It forms part of the Penibetic range, which stretches from the south-eastern part of Granada province to the western borders of Almería. Due to the great variety of its landscapes and the uniqueness of its natural features, Sierra Nevada is included in several different categories of protection. Apart from being a Nature Park and National Park, it is also an internationally recognised Biosphere Reserve. The coast of Granada in Spain is called Costa Tropical, due to its special location, protected by the high Sierra Nevada Mountains from the north wind.

Granada is one of the main references of Flamenco in Spain, especially in the Sacromonte caves.

• Flying to Granada

Granada-Jaén GRX airport is 15 kilometres (9.3 miles) from the city centre.

• Driving to Granada

The A-44 and A-4 highways link Granada and Madrid. The A-92 links Granada to Seville and Malaga. The A-92 also connects to the Levant, continuing the route along the A-7. The A-44 links Granada with Motril, on the Tropical Coast.

• Coming to Granada by bus

From Granada bus station you can travel anywhere in Spain and to Europe's main destinations.

• Coming to Granada by train

Granada railway station is in the city centre. On Avenida Andaluces. You can consult the timetables of trains to and from Granada on the Renfe website. The Organization has reached agreements with Renfe to provide discounts for attendants. You can download the authorization here. To validate the discount you must proceed following this steps:

2.- In the drop-down of rates select the Congress / Events rate.

3.- Enter the authorization number in the box indicating the authorization number (Not valid for the discount code box)
